Configure a TALK AND LISTEN KIT® System
Before deciding to purchase a TALK AND LISTEN KIT® wireless communication system, there are some basic considerations to make in order to determine the type of system that will best suit your needs!
Three key factors to determine before configuring your TALK AND LISTEN KIT® System:
- How many languages are you going to interpret at one time?
- What is the total number of non-English speaking, hard of hearing, or participating “listeners” that are going to be in the meeting?
- Will you be conducting “breakout sessions” in the alternate language, within the confines of the same building?
For example, if the meeting is being conducted in English and you have four different languages in the audience to cater to, with a total number of limited English participants combined equaling Qty 30, and then you will require:
- 4 - transmission portions (CSG-TP4) consisting of the following: (1) PrivacyMic® voice-silencing microphone each (1) backup headset microphone each (1) Four-channel digital transmitter (325’ range) with digital screen channel lock, mute (cough) switch and belt clip each and (1)10 pack of Disposable Moisture-Absorbing Filters for the PrivacyMic.
- 30 - four channel receivers sets (CSG-RM4)
- Accessories – depending on the size of the system will determine the type and size of carry cases, accessory kits and batteries needed.
Each CSG-TP4 will include a Four Channel Talk and Listen Kit® digital transmitter - this is the “transmission portion”. You’ll need one transmission portion for each individual language you want to interpret – this will be given to each “human” interpreter of each language. For example, if you’d like to interpret Spanish, German, Chinese and French, you would need four transmission portions; one for each interpreter of each language.
One interpreter would speak Spanish into the PrivacyMic® set on channel #1, another would speak German into his/her PrivacyMic® set on channel #2, and so on. The PrivacyMic® is plugged into the transmitter and runs on 2-AA batteries thus allowing for wireless mobility and silent communication known as the “transmission portion”. The transmission portion broadcasts the interpreter’s voice using FM Radio Frequency to the limited English, hard of hearing, or participating “listeners” using “receiver sets”.
The receiver set (CSG-RM4) includes a listening device of your choice; either headphones or earhooks that is plugged into the portable receiver that runs on 2-AA batteries. Each limited English, hard of hearing, or participating “listener” will require one receiver set allowing them to hear the interpreter broadcasting the message in their native language by using the specified transmission portion. For example, if you have 30 non-English speaking people in the meeting, each one of them would get a receiver set upon entering the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, each interpreter would make an announcement to the general audience in the native language to be interpreted into, “if you would like to listen in Spanish, turn your unit to channel #1”, “if you would like to listen in German, turn your unit to channel #2”, and so on and so forth.
At this point the person that understands that message will select the channel from the digital readout on the front of the faceplate of the receiver. Note: the receiver set may be “pre-selected” and set to a specific channel “locking” it in prior to the meeting – therefore, you could have the receiver sets bundled into groups by language and hand them out at beginning of meeting when the limited English participant checks the unit out. Otherwise, once each interpreter makes the same announcement in their specific language the meeting can get started.
The meeting will now be conducted in English by the keynote speaker, but no one will hear the interpretation except the listeners with the receiver sets. So ultimately, a one hour meeting will now take just one hour. No more stop and go, or segregating the non-English speakers into separate groups. This example was catering to 4-lanugages, however, we can accommodate up to 8 different language interpreters at one time. You have the option of buying 1 to 8 channels; if you purchase just 1 channel now and discover that you are going to need to add one or more languages or breakout sessions, no problem! Just give us a call and we can upgrade your current equipment at a minimal cost to accommodate your growth.
